By now, you have probably read half a dozen “Top Spring Destination” articles and perhaps even avoided reading another dozen. But our Top 5 list is different. Why? Well, because our list is dedicated to those adventurous travelers looking to visit must-see festivals and events around the world. So let’s get started…

#5 Budapest, Hungary

For those of you who are interested in classical music and culture, Budapest Tavaszi Fesztival is for you. The Festival takes place between April 10th through April 26th and is considered the largest cultural event of its kind in Europe. Budapest is also well-known for over 200 additional events which allow visitors to take part in classical music, jazz, opera, dance and other exhibitions throughout the city.4

  • MAJOR AIRPORTS: (BUD) Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport
  • 4-5 STAR AIRLINES: Air France, Alitalia, British Airways, United, Delta, Lufthansa, Swiss, Virgin *connections may be required

#4 Mayrhofen, Austria

We selected Austria because of the Snowbombing Festival which takes place between April 6th through April 11th. Known as the “Greatest Show on Snow,” the music festival has live bands, popular DJs and snowboarding and skiing events. Whether you stay for a day or for a week, be sure to check out the igloo and enchanged forest décor.

  • MAJOR AIRPORTS: (INN) Innsbruck Kranebitten
  • 4-5 STAR AIRLINES: Lufthansa, British Airways, Austrian Airlines *connections may be required

#3 Thailand

Next on the list was Thailand with its Songkran Water Fight Festival and Thai New Year. This yearly event occurs mid-April anywhere from 3 to 6 days. This event is not for the timid. Expect to get involved in the event while you are there as locals and visitors all take part in the Songkran Water Fight Festival. Of all the cities in Thailand, Chiang Mai holds the most recognized and largest six-day water festival. Second to Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Bangkok, Phuket and Khon Kaen are also great places to take part in this water fight event.

#2 Monte Carlo, Monaco

This made our list primarily because of the world-famous Grand Prix in Monaco. For those who may not be familiar with the event, it is a 78-lap, Formula One race held between May 21st through May 24th. On top of this being a once in a life time opportunity to view the best-of-the-best race care drivers. The event also offers a great shopping, celebrity spotting and food experience. Not to mention the popular night life and casinos.

  • MAJOR AIRPORTS: (NCE) Nice Cote D’Azur
  • 4-5 STAR AIRLINES: Air France, Alitalia, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, British Airways, Virgin, United, Delta, KLM *connections may be required

#1 Chios Island, Greece

Choosing our top spring destination wasn’t easy but we gave it to Chios Island in Greece. Why? Well because there isn’t anything quite like seeing tens of thousands of home-made rockets fly through the sky.

Let us explain. At midnight on Easter Eve in Vrontados, two churches, Agios Markos and Panagia Erithiani compete against each other in an attempt to ring each other’s church bell with home-made rockets. Best part of all is that during this event, all planned Easter services run as scheduled while home-made rockets are set off and aimed at the opposing church’s bells.

  • 4-5 STAR AIRLINES: Air France, Alitalia, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, British Airways, Virgin, United, Delta, KLM *connections may be required
