Oktoberfest 2014
Guten Tag! Tis the season, for beer! Oktoberfest begins in Munich September 20th and goes until October 5th. Although, there are many similar celebrations around the globe, we like to boast the original! So, bust out your lederhosen and your finest stein and get ready for the brats and brew.
What’s on the Calendar?
The tent patrons will arrive at 11am on Saturday, September 20th and parade through Munich followed by the tapping of the first keg by the mayor. On Sunday, September 21st, there will be a costume parade through Munich. Both Tuesdays of the event, September 23rd and 30th, will be family days and all rides and performances will cost less. Sunday, October 5th will be the day the festival commences and a traditional gun-salute will be done on the steps of the Bavaria monument. Naturally, enjoyment of ‘liquid gold’ will be the main feature every day of the event.

Where to Stay
Oktoberfest is held in Munich. So, your flight will likely be into Airport Franz-Josef-Strauss which is located about 20 km north of Munich. Many nearby hotels offer special deals during this event. It is recommended that attendees use public transportation to get where they need to go. Not solely because of the alcohol consumption, but also due to lack of parking options. If it’s luxury accommodations you seek, there are plenty of options. A few we recommend are:
- Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinkski Munich – 5 stars, 6 stories, with 297 unique rooms and suites. Centrally located and close to all attractions.
- Sofitel Munich Bayerpost – 5 stars, 57 suites, state-of-the-art interior design. Very close to downtown and easily accessible from all directions.
- Bayerischer Hof – 5 stars, 60 suites and over 340 rooms. Situated in the city center of Munich with lots nearby.
