Let’s Talk Sign-up Bonuses: Part III

Posted By Wilton0 Comments

Alright, here it is – the final installment of Let’s Talk Sign-Up Bonuses! After this, you should have a good understanding of the basic parameters of some of the most popular cards.

United MileagePlus Explorer
To help solidify their 2010 merger with Continental Airlines, United has released a fantastic credit card issued by JPMorgan Chase. In addition to a whopping 25,000 bonus miles for the first time you swipe this card, you can earn an additional 5,000 miles for adding a second cardholder within the first 60 days. You’ll earn a further 10,000 miles when you spend at least $25,000 on the card. Beyond earning 2 miles for every $1 spent on United tickets, you’ll earn 1 mile per every $1 spent on all other purchases. Finally, you can expect to be treated to many of the same Visa Signature perks – first checked bag is free of charge, priority boarding, 2 VIP United Club passes, and a waive of the first year’s $95 annual fee!

Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus
Like the MileagePlus card, this card grants you 25,000 point after making your first purchase. From there on, you earn 2 points per dollar spent on Southwest Airlines and 1 point per dollar for every other purchase. Unique to Southwest is the gift of 3,000 points on the yearly anniversary of opening your card, the reduced fee of $69, and the ability to check the first and second bags for free! As long as you have flight or partner activity within 24 months, your points don’t expire.
